New International Students

Our goal is to assist and advise incoming international students on U.S. immigration related issues and regulations.  We also help direct students to finding answers to many questions about the transition to Penn State as a newly admitted student.

Admissions

ISSA is responsible for the processing of visa eligibility documents and advising. We work with students after they have been officially admitted to the University. Refer to the Admissions Office for admission inquiries.

New Student Visa Documentation Process

All newly admitted international students will need to complete this iStart process to request, refuse, or transfer an I-20 or DS-2019.

Financial Guarantee

The U.S. government requires schools to determine that individuals can meet expenses without resorting to unlawful employment or public funds. This section will help you determine estimated amounts required for issuance of an I-20 or DS-2019.

Getting Your F-1 or J-1 Visa

Resources are available to guide you through the F or J visa application process with the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate.

Arriving to the U.S.

The United States has rules and restrictions about who can enter, what activities are permitted, and what is required for each length of stay. You need to be aware of the many rules as you prepare to enter the U.S.
