Sponsor Advising
This would be a page dedicated to the type of sponsor-related issues we provide guidance on.
When should you contact your Embassy advisor?
Contacting your Embassy advisor is a good practice that most Sponsored Students should adhere to. Constant communication with your Embassy advisor allows you to inform them about significant academic changes, such as requesting a dual major, a minor, or any other major changes. When in doubt, it is always healthy to communicate to determine whether an action violates your sponsorship requirements. Essential topics to communicate include, but are not limited to:
- Major Changes
- Requesting Dual Majors or Minors
- Requesting authorization for late drops or late adds.
- Requesting approval for semester withdrawal
- Requesting retroactive withdrawal authorizations
- Requesting grade forgiveness
- Requesting approval for non-traditional courses (online, hybrid, remote asynchronous, remote blended, among others)
Most Embassy advisors appreciate the request and will guide you through the process of remaining compliant with your scholarship's academic requirements.

When should you contact your Sponsored Relations coordinators?
After obtaining authorization for any of the previous academic processes, sponsored students must inform the sponsor student coordinator (in writing or verbally) that the embassy has authorized a change in the account. Our coordinator will verify with the Embassy, and update your Starfish profile, as necessary. Your Starfish profile informs academic advisers of this change, who will then proceed to guide you through the process.
You are also welcome to reach out to Sponsored Relations at anytime for additional guidance by sending us an email to sponsor@psu.edu.
